What this check does
OrbitProbe opens an HTTPS connection to the site, follows up to five redirects and records the final HTTP status code, the time until the first byte of the answer, the Server header and the first 64 KB of the page, from which the title and meta tags are read. If HTTPS does not answer, plain HTTP is tried.
The result is one observation from one place at one moment. A site can be reachable from our server and unreachable for you because of your network, your DNS resolver or a regional outage, and the other way round. For a second opinion on DNS, use the propagation checker.
Reading the status
Up means the final answer was a 2xx or 3xx status. Answered with an error means the server is reachable but returned 4xx or 5xx: a 403 frequently only tells you that automated requests are refused, while a 5xx is a failure reported by the server itself. No answer means neither port 443 nor port 80 responded within the time budget.
Not tested is shown when the name has no address record or points at a private address. That is a statement about the check, not about the site.
Uptime history
Uptime is a record of many checks over time. This page does not invent one: it shows the checks this service has actually made for the domain since it last started, and says how many there are. To be told when the DNS of a domain changes, create a watch in the workspace.
